Why is SEEN in the Arts Necessary?

We have seen the challenging of these principles within a range of arts organisations and witnessed negative impacts on the experiences and careers of individuals who have not conformed to gender ideology. We believe that the arts should not be a vehicle for promoting views and agendas which are legally and ethically questionable.

We believe strongly in freedom of thought, speech and expression but that ideas and artistic programming should be age and audience appropriate.

We believe that the commitment to gender ideology should not override accepted safeguarding principles and that the balance of artistic programming should reflect the range of beliefs of our audiences.

Clarifying the Law

The recent Supreme Court Judgement clarified that under the Equality Act sex and gender reassignment are protected characteristics and that sex is defined by biological sex.

We are concerned at the level of misinformation about the facts, interpretation and implications of this judgement from leaders of museums and arts organisations, funders and arts publications……

What will we do?

We will provide a forum to connect and support people in the arts who share our beliefs, aims and objectives.  We will share information and provide support through regular meetings, online and in person.

We will share information and best practice.

We will record and collate bad practice

We will support and enable you to take action within your own organisations or practice.

We cannot advise on legal issues or provide legal representation but we can direct you to other organisations who can.
